How Often Should You Repaint Your Parking Lot?

Your parking lot is the first thing people see when they come to your business. As safe drivers, they will naturally check for potholes, obstructions, or any number of signs that your lot is in disrepair. While you may focus on these issues during parking lot maintenance, the lines throughout your parking lot are often overlooked. Ensuring that the lines throughout your lot look their best can take a backseat to more evident signs of distress, like potholes, but maintaining your lines requires just as much care and attention. But how do you know when it is time to restripe your parking lot? Platinum Paving & Sealcoating have the answers for you!

When Should I Restripe?

The longevity of your parking lot lines and markings depends on several factors, the most common being how much traffic your parking lot sees daily. The more cars that come through your lot, the faster the lines will fade and lose their luster. Typically, you want to restripe your lines between every 18-24 months. Sticking to that time frame will help keep your lot looking its best and give your visitors the best impression upon arrival.

Restriping your lot requires you to section off a portion of your day where you can keep visitors from using your space — ideally at a low volume time where there is minimal disruption to your daily activities.

How Long Does Restriping Take?

Restriping your will depend on the size of your parking lot. Choosing the right paint for the job also goes a long way in determining how long the whole process will take. Water-based acrylic paint provides the best combination of durability, high visibility, brightness, and being environmentally friendly. Watch the following video for more information:

Once the lines are restriped, they will dry within as little as 30 minutes. We recommend keeping cars off the lot for at least one hour after the last application to be on the safe side, however.
